Students enrolled in biotechnology at El Molino High School and their teacher Joan Vreeburg were invited to visit the Pathology Department at UCSF Medical School Jan. 16.

This experience gave students hands-on instruction in how to prepare tissue samples for pathological analysis by the scientists who work in the lab. The students were also taught how to use the electron microscope in another lab at UCSF.

The students were motivated and inspired by this experience, according to the school and internships next summer in the UCSF Pathology Lab could result.

The Biotechnology students have participated in a series of field trips to biotech firms and interactions with university professors, school officials said.
