Eight Sonoma County high schoolers nabbed $1,000 scholarships from the statewide Druids organization.

Based on grades, citizenship and community service, 15 high school graduates in all won $1,000 awards, eight of them were from Sonoma County, according to Charlie Petersen, grand trustee of the Petaluma Druids.

“We have dinner and social gatherings all year” to fundraise,  he said of the scholarship that has been given out every year since 1951.

The following local award winners were provided by the Druids:

Alexander Fraser of Point Arena High

Mallenda Gregory of Petaluma High

Sara Illa of Cloverdale High

Justin Rainwater of Cloverdale High
