Katrina anniversary fundraiser on Saturday

Nonesuch School in Sebastopol will host a Cajun-influenced fundraiser Saturday night to generate money to send students to New Orleans to help ongoing recovery efforts this spring. For three years students from the non-profit independent school have traveled to New Orleans to help rebuild communities crushed by Hurricane Katrina, said former Nonesuch parent Jill Casad.
“We are calling it ‘Katrina Remembered,’” she said of the Saturday night event.
Food will be served from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the live Zydeco music starts at 8 p.m. at the Masonic Center, 373 North Main St. in Sebastopol.
Students who have worked in New Orleans in the past will speak to guests about their experiences, Casad said.
“We’ll have some of the students talking a little bit about what is going on in New Orleans and what still needs to be done,” she said. “It’s kind of an update on the condition of what is going on down there.”
Ticket prices are based on a sliding scale donation between $15 and $50 and food tickets are $10.
About 10 of Nonesuch’s 30 students typically travel down to Louisiana each spring to participate in work sponsored by Common Ground.
