___________

Six Sonoma County high school debaters have advanced to the upcoming state championship debate and speech tournament after scoring well at the qualifying tournaments last weekend across the East Bay.

From Analy High School, Gordon Allen secured a spot in Lincoln Douglas debate; Nate Rosen in impromptu speaking and Ryan Taylor-Davis in oratorical interpretation. I hear from folks at Analy that Taylor-Davis performs a rendition of Stephen Colbert’s Press Corps dinner speech “honoring” George W. Bush.

From Sonoma Academy, Millie Williams advanced in the original prose and poetry category, and from Windsor High, the team of Jason Fauss and Jonathan Jeffrey will compete in the parliamentary debate competition.

The state competition will be next month in Bakersfield.

Students from Analy, Sonoma Academy, Windsor, St. Vincent, Santa Rosa High, Sonoma, Montgomery and Maria Carrillo high schools compete in the Golden Gate Speech Association league.

Stay tuned here for updates.
