One interesting bit that didn’t fit into the story, Stone apparently took up pole vaulting as a sophomore after watching 1990’s low-budget-sci-fi-horror flick featuring Kevin Bacon. In one scene in “Tremors,” the three main characters are trapped on a cluster of rocks in the middle of the desert by a man-eating sand monsters called “graboids.”
The three manage to escape said graboid by vaulting from rock to rock above the sand creature, eventually making their way back to their truck.
Thus, a record breaking athletic career is born.
