Rancho Cotate High School co-valedictorian Sophia Grubb was named the 2010 winner of David Bouverie Scholarship at the Bouverie Preserve Tuesday.

The $1,500 scholarship was established in memory of Phyllis Ellman who is called the “founding mother” of the Bouverie Preserve Environmental Education Program.

“The David Bouverie Scholarship was founded with students like Sophia in mind. Sophia is a leader, she’s interested in science and she is great at sharing her love of nature with others,” Jeanne Wirka, director of education at Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Bouverie Preserve said in a statement. “Sophia personifies what it means to be a Junior Naturalist.”

Grubb entered the Juniper program in fifth grade and has pursued her interest in natural history and mentoring younger students, according to program officials.
