Want to see the new state schools chief sworn in on Monday? You can. The event is open to the public.

Tom Torlakson will be inaugurated as the state’s 27th State Superintendent of Public Instruction Monday in Concord. He will be sworn in by Barbara Nemko, superintendent of the Napa County Office of Education.

The inauguration will be at 9 a.m. at Mt. Diablo High School where Torlakson remains a teacher on leave after teaching science, math and world history there.

Torlakson will then host an open house at the California Department of Education office Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
