The waiting list to get into the fall 2011 kindergarten class at Santa Rosa Charter School for the Arts is at 59, according to principal Anna Guzman.

That number has come into play in recent weeks as Santa Rosa City Schools officials work to decide how to deal with that school’s growing popularity and limited space on the Humboldt Street campus.

An initial proposal to bus kindergarten and first graders to the Doyle Park Elementary campus on Sonoma Avenue has been met with opposition from both school communities.

But the “waiting” list for the Arts Charter kinder class will remain a fluid number until the district decides how many kindergarten classes to offer next year. This year, they opened the doors to three classes, but in years past, it’s only been one. Until that decision is made, that means 59 families are awaiting some sort of decision.

“I know I have done a lot of tours,” Guzman said.
