The West County Transportation Agency won Assemblyman Jared Huffman’s North Bay Sustainable Award for the month of March.

Huffman, D-San Rafael, presented the award at Lawrence E. Jones Middle School in Rohnert Park on March 31.

“I am very impressed with the steps that the Cotati-Rohnert Park School District and West County Transportation Agency have taken to conserve energy and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions,” Huffman said in a statement.

West County Transportation Agency has 44 compressed natural gas coaches and vehicles – the largest fleet in the Bay Area, according to Mike Rea, executive director of the agency.

The agency serves 16 school districts in Sonoma County under a joint powers agreement. Cotati-Rohnert Park School District is the largest district in the system.
