French teacher Sarah Wadsworth and about 25 Petaluma High School French students got a lesson in the classic French game (think of something akin to bocce) from the Petaluma Valley Petanque Club. The lesson was given in French in Oak Hill Park Friday afternoon.
Club members Sabine and Roger Mattei, Frank Pipal and Christine Lemore Drake gave game instructions in French.
Earlier this month, the club hosted a lesson on the rules of the game in English for neighborhood residents, according to the club.
Interested in learning the game or practicing your French? The club will hold “Potluck in the Park” on May 21. The club plays every Saturday at Oak Hill Park, 411 Howard St.

Wow, Ed I am impressed. What a great idea; we ought to follow your lead and do something like it in Marin and have the Marin Independent Journal come and take photos.
I’ll bring it to the board; I am sure Christine already saw this and will comment on it at our next board meeting.
Thanks for sharing. Regards, Verena.

What’s a story about high school kids actually learning something doing in my newspaper and/or website? Kids are supposed to be at that park having xxx and doing drugs !! In my day, half that class would have ditched the French lesson and never made it to the park.
Kudos to that French teacher.

Enjoyed the article B. Such fun FUN and hope some of these students return on Wed. pm and Sat. am to play weekly. It’s always enjoyable having a variety of age groups at the courts.
