Laura Castillo didn’t miss a beat when her son Damian was born last November.

Born on Nov. 19, her son’s birth caused  Castillo to miss about three days of school but she returned after Thanksgiving break.

“I was always on track for graduation,” she said.

She credited her teachers and counselors for helping her navigate high school even with more than a little distraction.

Castillo is headed to Sonoma State University in the fall and she plans to study nursing.

“I’m excited,” she said.

Her friends have rallied behind her and Castillo is making plans to move out and live with her boyfriend as she enters her freshman year of studies.
