Sonoma County students are heading to Scotland.

Montgomery High School thespians met their $80,000 fundraising goal and will be performing at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest art festival next week. A troupe from Elsie Allen High also met their goals and are setting off today as well.

The Montgomery group will perform “Spring Fever” in four performances, using the Church Hill Theatre as their stage.

“I’m so thankful to all the amazing individuals in our community and beyond who made our dream come true,” Montgomery High performing arts teacher Sue Byrne wrote me in an email. “It is so humbling to know how much folks care about our young people that they would donate money to support these kids going off to perform at the Fringe.”

Ten Montgomery students will be making the trip, along with Byrne, another teacher and two parents.

The crew leaves today and returns Aug. 15 (about 12 hours before school starts Tuesday, notes Byrne).

It really is quite a coup: two drama departments from SR staging at the Fringe.
