The Santa Rosa High School Foundation is hosting a community conversation with two local authors who also happen to be Panthers.

David Vann, ’85, and Scott Gummer, ’82, will speak at a literary forum scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the school’s auditorium.

Vann is an international best selling author who has been published in 16 languages and has won numerous prizes including the Grace Paley Prize, the Prix Medicis in France and the Premi Llibreter in Spain. Vann is author of “Legend of a Suicide,” “Caribou Island,” “A Mile Down: The True Story of a Disastrous Career at Sea,” and “Last Day on Earth: A Portrait of the NIU School Shooter.”

Gummer’s “Parents Behaving Badly” was published this year – his first novel. His non-fiction works include “The Seventh at St. Andrews” and “Homer Kelly’s Golfing Machine.” In addition to his writing, Gummer has edited numerous books, including “Worth the Wait,” the San Francisco Giants official World Series book.

Organizers are hoping that English teachers will consider using the talk as a way to enrich classroom conversations and expand reading lists.

Admission is free. For more information, call 571-SRHS.
