The Mendocino County Board of Education is taking applications to fill the seat for trustee Area 5 after longtime board member Nice Alterman announced her resignation. Alterman, a board member since 1989, cited personal reasons and a heavy travel schedule for her decision.

Applicants must be registered voters and live in Area 5 which includes Mendocino, Manchester, Point Arena, Navarro, Boonville and Hopland areas.

The county board typically meets on the second Monday of each month, with additional meetings as needed.

Board members are paid $168 per month that is applied toward health benefits. Board members are responsible for paying $245 per month toward benefits, according to the office of education.

The deadline for submitting an application is Nov. 4. The board will make a recommendation for Alterman’s replacement at the Nov. 14 meeting. Those interested in the post should contact Katie Pearson at the Mendocino County Office of Education at 467-5033.

The new board member’s first meeting is expected to be Dec. 12. Alterman’s term expires Dec. 6, 2013.
