State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson today unvieled his list of 35 schools from across the state for the National Blue Ribbon Honor. A quick journey down the list shows that not a single school in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt or Marin counties are on the list.

The closest schools to our north bay region are two from San Francisco Unified – Alice Fong Yu Alternative School and Lowell High School.

In order to make the list, schools must have either achieved at least the 85th percentile statewide of students scoring proficient or advanced in English language arts and math on state tests or have at least 40 percent of their students from a disadvantaged background that are also among the top 10 percent of schools in the state with regard to improvement in English and math skills over five years.
