Monroe Elementary School student Shamya Stone is Santa Rosa City Schools elementary school student of the month for January.

Stone was honored at Wednesday night’s board meeting.

Stone is described by teachers and staff at Monroe as a student who gives 100 percent effort on all assignments and always turns in top quality work.

She is an avid reader who is currently tackling the Hunger Games series and has enjoyed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series as well as “Where the Red Fern Grows,” and “James and the Giant Peach.”

She’s involved in cheerleading outside of school and described a polite and respectful to all.

Stone dreams of becoming a doctor and will be applying next month to Sonoma State University’s Academic Talent Search.
