Santa Rosa Middle School is in the middle of their fifth annual Multicultural Week on the E Street campus.

Teachers can sign up to bring their classes to an array of talks, performances and gatherings all week. Topics include talks from Japanese-American citizens, African dance, a talk from a Holocaust survivor, Chinese yo-yo experts and fire dancers.

The week culminates in an evening of eating and performances in the Cougar’s gym that is open to the public. On Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. the general public can come to the gym and hear live mariachi music, watch Chinese acrobats and Hawaiian dancers. There will be food items for sale including bratwurst and sauerkraut, hot dogs, ceviche tostadas, lumpia, apple pie, churros, hot dogs, Indian tacos, tamales and tri-tip sliders.

Admission is free.

The school is located at 500 E St.

In 2009, I saw the Chinese acrobats perform in the Cougar gym and they nearly brought the house down. To read that story, click here http://bit.ly/zY6VvI
