This is not a straight up schools item but it is educational and it sounds like fun, so here you go:

The Environmental Discovery Center at Spring Lake Regional Park will be the starting point for series of “Science Saturdays” for families beginning in March.

On the first Saturday of each month March through August, families can visit the discovery center off of Violetti Road between noon and 5 p.m. to experience science with hands on and fun experiments. Each Saturday will have a theme. This Saturday the series will kick off with “Liquids, solids and gases: A primer to the physical sciences.”

Upcoming Science Saturday topics include:

Electromagnetism – April 7th

The Atmosphere and Us – May 5th

Outer Space – June 2nd

Life on Earth – A Journey Through Time – July 7th

Environmental Stewardship and Garbology – Aug. 4th

Experiments will be led by discovery center naturalists.

In addition to Science Saturdays, families can also join Environmental Discovery Center naturalists on hikes at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. every third Saturday of the month. The next hike is March 17.

Admission is include with paid parking or a Regional Parks membership.There is no fee for Science Saturday’s or the nature hikes, but a $5 donation to the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation is welcomed.
