The Santa Rosa School Board has selected Santa Rosa High School incoming senior Lily Peterson to be the student representative on the board beginning July 1.

The board has included a student representative on the board since 1978. Schools are represented on a regular rotation. Student representatives are given a preferential vote on all items except those discussed in closed session. The student rep vote does not affect the final outcome.

Peterson has tallied a 4.36 grade point average through three years of high school and was Girls’ State Representative for Santa Rosa High in 2012. She is co-president elect of the school’s successful Climate Protection Club and is a member of the Panthers’ debate team.

She is also active in anti-cyber bullying campaigns, as well as the Sonoma County Jewish Teen Board and the Kaiser Teen Board. She was a participant in the 2011-12 Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.

Also on Wednesday, the board honored outgoing student representative Richard Liang who graduates from Maria Carrillo on Friday.
