Remember the story on the proposal to drop the requirement for a second year of science in order to graduate from high school in California? Well that idea was the topic on KQED’s Forum program yesterday. Have a listen here: http://bit.ly/Lk6z8N

I just re-read the January 30th article. If elementary school teachers aren’t feeling prepared to teach science why not bring in someone from the outside as “freelance”, a graduate student or some type of internship for a college student make it a tax deduction or something beneficial. At the high school level, if a student isn’t going on to a four year program, then they can opt out. But don’t eliminate for those who want it especially when there is a deficit of women in science. I agree once a district doesn’t have the science requirement it’s an easier route to use that money to fulfill another need.
