A quick preview into potential school board races this fall shows that the vast majority of school boards in Sonoma County will be filled via uncontested races. Some incumbents in those districts have chosen not to run, but in many instances just one contender for the vacancy has stepped up.

The three seats on the Santa Rosa Junior College board will not be contested, nor does it look like there will be races in Petaluma City Schools, Windsor, Sonoma Valley, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Mark West, Roseland and a slew of others.

In Santa Rosa City Schools, incumbent Tad Wakefield has decided not to run for re-election but in that case only attorney Jenni Klose has filed papers. Sitting members Laura Gonzalez, Larry Haenel and Donna Jeye are all seeking re-election.

There will be races for two seats on the Sonoma County Board of Education, in Cotati-Rohnert Park, West Sonoma County High School, Oak Grove and Old Adobe.

Of course, things can change by 5 p.m. today in some of those contests, so stay tuned.
