Rae Galeazzi accepting educator of the year honors.

Good news from Lawrence Jones Middle School in Rohnert Park – English teacher Rae Galeazzi has been named the Region 1 California League of Middle Schools educator of the year. The honor means Galeazzi, a 31-year veteran, will be honored at the California League of Middle Schools annual conference in Sacramento in March. One of the 11 regional nominees will be named California’s teacher of the year and represent California at an event in Washington, D.C.

Galeazzi was chosen as top teacher among all nominees from Del North, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties.

Galeazzi is the first teacher from Cotati-Rohnert Park School District to receive this award since its inception in 1991, according to Lawrence Jones Middle School Principal Laurie Mason.

“She has a deep understanding of middle school students’ needs and has constantly worked to meet those needs,” Mason wrote in Galeazzi’s nomination. “She is a strong advocate for creating a learning environment that addresses middle school students’ socio-emotional, physical and cognitive needs. She provides them exceptional activities to help them connect to the subject matter.”

“Rae’s experience and ability to engage her students is why she has become our ‘go-to’ master teacher for numerous student teachers,” Mason wrote.

Galeazzi co-authored a monthly writing assignment when she was at Mountain Shadows Middle School, called “Write to the Point.” That program won the California School Boards Association Golden Bell award, the Sonoma State University Jack London Education Excellence Award and the Sonoma County Office of Education Program Excellence Award.
