Elsie Allen High School’s Cristina Garcia and Alexis Vargas are both Santa Rosa City Schools students of the month for February.

Garcia, a junior, and Vargas, a senior, are both cheerleaders for the Lobos.

Garcia is described as an amazing personality who is a loving friend and daughter. Vargas is called full of energy and described as a caring person by her classmates.

The girls, who are cousins, were injured in a devastating auto accident in December in which Garcia’s mother was killed.

The Elsie Allen community has since rallied feverishly to support the girls’ families.

Students quickly mobilized and worked together to inform the community about the family’s need, according to school officials. A massive fundraiser was held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds this month to raise money. To read about that event, click here http://bit.ly/YevdwF

“Whether it has been financial, emotional or hands on support, Elsie Allen High School students were motive to give back,” school officials wrote in support of the girls winning the student of the month award. “Our motto is ‘Once a Lobo, Always a Lobo.’”
