Santa Rosa Junior College head football coach and chairman of the kinesiology, athletics and dance department Lenny Wagner has been named educator of the year by the California Community College Physical Educators.

Seven recipients are named statewide. Wagner won the award in the faculty member category.

Wagner, who was elevated from the Bear Cubs’ defensive coordinator to head coach in December, was praised for his work in promoting the department and highlighting the importance of physical exercise.

“I fully recognize the significance of this award for Lenny, for our department, the college community and for the greater community at large,” James Forkum, dean of the kinesiology, athletics and dance department said in a statement. “The work Lenny has done has had an impact on our discipline throughout the state.”

Wagner will be honored at the California Community College Athletic Association spring luncheon in San Mateo on March 28.
