Healdsburg Elementary School is again the recipient of a gift of technology. A $30,000 grant to buy iPads for third through fifth graders at the Fitch Mountain Campus was announced at a recent open house at the First Street campus to highlight how a year-old program focused on kindergarten through second graders is progressing.

The John Jordan Foundation and Syar Foundation have joined to provide a $30,000 grant which will allow Healdsburg Elementary School officials to buy iPads as well as accessories and training programs through the initiative dubbed “Teaching With Tablets.” The most recent gift follows a similar donation last year which funded the purchase of 29 iPads for kindergarten, first and second graders.

First launched in 2012 with a focus on technology use in math and English classes, the program is expanding and will include a formula to track students’ learning and whether it is improved with the use of technology.

Guests were recently invited to the campus to see how the iPads are being used in second grade classrooms.
