Luz Hernandez is Santa Rosa City Schools middle school student of the month for April.

Hernandez, an eighth grader at Cook Middle School, has a 3.8 grade point average and has applied for the University Center program at Elsie Allen High School. Already active in Compact for Success at Cook, Hernandez hopes to attend Sonoma State University and do graduate work at Stanford University. She hopes to become an immigration lawyer or pediatrician.

Hernandez is active on Cook’s campus. She is in the science club, the builders club, the JV volleyball team and AVID.

Teachers describe her as a courteous, kind and diligent student who works hard to achieve in everything she does. She is a quiet leader and a good thinker, according to school officials.

She is described as a  motivated, persistent, positive student and role model.
