Monroe Elementary School’s Michael Persinger was recently awarded an NEA Foundation award to travel to the “Constructing Modern Knowledge” conference in New Hampshire earlier this month.

Persinger, who teaches third grade, received a $2,000 Learning and Leadership grant from the NEA. His focus at the conference was refining multimedia projects that will empower students to meet new Common Core standards, according to the NEA. He is expected to share his findings with colleagues.

Among the speakers at the “Constructing Modern Knowledge” conference was Sebastopol’s Dale Dougherty, president of Maker Media.

The NEA Foundation awards grants three times a year. The next deadline is Oct. 15. For more information, go to www.neafoundation.org
