El Molino High School’s viticulture students helped bring in about three tons of pinot noir grapes from the school’s one-acre vineyard on Anderson Road, school backers said.

The vineyard was originally planted 13 years ago with the help of Russian River Valley Winegrowers and today Dutton Ranch owners Steve and Joe Dutton oversee the vines for the Lions.

Since 2010, the Bohemian Club of San Francisco and Monte Rio has purchased grapes to make wine they call Bohemian Lion’s Pride Pinot Noir.

Winegrape sales have helped support scholarships, and have helped to purchase a nine-passenger van, pickup truck, textbook and tools, backers said.

The ag program at El Molino shows students the seasons of grape growing, the science of vines and the skills that each phase of viticulture demands, said El Mo’s ag teacher Marilee Mazur.
