Brook Haven School was the site of the first Kids Can! College last weekend, as sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth graders staged “classes” where younger students could learn skills in sports, crafting and game playing.

Kids Can! College was the brain child of Mike Carey, a member of the Sebastopol Rotary Club as well as the Sebastopol School Board, according to first year Brook Haven Principal Debbie Hanks.

“The kids had a fabulous learning experience (Saturday), thanks to the efforts of Mike and the volunteers,” Hanks said in a statement.

Class subjects included story writing, chess, cartooning, soccer, dance, bird house making and others.

“This is an amazing example of older students sharing activities they are excited about with younger kids,” first year superintendent Linda Irving said in a statement.

Brook Haven is scheduled to host another Kids Can! College next spring.
