Maria Carrillo High School senior Cami Rencken was surprised Thursday morning with a visit from Oakland Raider Brice Butler. Butler, a seventh round pick who just finished his rookie season in Oakland, was on campus to award Rencken a Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team scholarship of $3,000.

In addition to the Raiders, the 49ers, Oakland A’s, Golden State Warriors, Giants, San Jose Earthquakes and the San Jose Sharks all honor a college-bound senior who has displayed leadership in and outside of the classroom, has maintained a 3.0 grade point average, demonstrate a good work ethic and commitment to community outreach and participate in extra curricular activities.

Rencken, a soccer player, spent her junior year in South Africa helping build a home that has since become a central meeting place for an impoverished neighborhood. Carrillo counselor Marie Speaks nominated Rencken.

In December, Rencken was featured as a Press Democrat Teen Face. To read that story, click here: http://bit.ly/1kBt7WA

In addition, Rencken will be honored at a Raiders game.
