Apparently he used to live in Sonoma County and still reads about goings on here in Sonoma County on the Press Democrat online. He was struck by the many stories outlining the ailing budgets of local schools.
With his permission, I am sharing what he wrote.
Let me know what you think:

I did an item on the death of Eugene Mijares last week (click here to read it http://extracredit.blogs.pressdemocrat.com/10779/eugene-mijares-remembered/), but a number of acknowledgements were made at tonight’s meeting for the man who spent a quarter of a decade working with students in Santa Rosa.
Board President Donna Jeye offered her condolences to the Mijares family and led the public in a moment of silence.
“There is a man who obviously had an …

A report on transfers affecting Santa Rosa City Schools was submitted at tonight’s school board meeting. It generated no discussion, but here are some highlights:
104 elementary students attended a school other than their home school within the district last year. That is up from 37 students in 2007-08. (Interestingly, in 2005-06 transfers hit 71 and a year later it was 74 before the drop to 37 students).
