Analy High hosting ‘Terrapalooza’ Saturday

Analy High School will host its first annual Sustainability Showcase tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Terrapalooza” will showcase various interactive student projects and activities, according to organizers. There will be a plant/heirloom seed sale, petting zoo, tiny house display, solar baked treats, how to build a chicken coop seminar, human powered vehicle rides, solar cell demonstrations and other activities. REMINDER: Analy’s big jazz night is Saturday

REMINDER: Analy High School Jazz Band supporters will host the second annual big band and dance festival “In the Mood” on Saturday at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts. Music will include Latin, jazz and swing tunes. Stephen Nordquist will offer dance lessons. The event runs from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the instrumental music program at the high school. Top of the tops Poetry Out Loud contest Feb. 10

Twelve Sonoma County high schools will be sending students to the countywide Poetry Out Loud competition Feb. 10. In the program, students memorize then recite poems. The pieces are not written by the students, but are typically considered greats in the English language. The participating schools include: Analy, Cloverdale, Creekside, El Molino, Elsie Allen, Maria Carrillo, Montgomery, Piner, Rancho Cotate, Roseland University Prep, Santa Rosa and Sonoma Academy. Analy junior honored by the 49ers

Analy High School junior Gianna Pendleton was recently honored at the 12th annual 49ers Community Quarterback Awards luncheon. Pendleton was honored for her work with Goldridge 4-H and the Sonoma County 4-H Council. Five finalists, including Pendleton, where given $1,000.  Pendleton also serves as the Youth Countywide Leader in Community Service. The 2012 Community Quarterback Award was given to Glen Bethel of Menlo Park. He received $10,000. Analy High wins Bright Ideas grant

Analy High School received a $10,000 grant from PG&E this week to build a small house on campus that will rely on renewable power and be completely off the grid, according to PG&E spokeswoman Brittany McKannay. The awards, part of the company’s Bright Ideas program, are doled out to support green schools and educate students about renewable energy. Analy asking Tigers, Hounds fans to wear pink

Analy High School is hosting Healdsburg in football Friday night and using the game as a kick-off for breast cancer awareness events. Fans are asked to wear pink in support of breast cancer survivors. All proceeds from shirt sales and all donations made at the games will go to breast cancer awareness initiatives, according to school officials.
