Santa Rosa’s concussion testing under way

Sonoma County’s largest school district has started doing baseline concussion testing for its student athletes, Santa Rosa City Schools board president Bill Carle said at Wednesday night’s school board meeting. More than 300 athletes were given the computer-based test last week, he said. The goal remains to test every student athlete, according to Carle. Casa’s ‘Ac Dec’ team does it again

Casa Grande High School won the 2013 North Bay Region Academic Decathlon and took home the Sonoma County Academic Decathlon title in the same competition in Fairfield last weekend. The team is now prepping for the state competition in Sacramento March 14-18. Art exhibit for Petaluma high school students

Students from Casa Grande, Petaluma  and St. Vincent de Paul high schools will have their art on display at the Petaluma Arts Center from March 15-30. The High School Masterworks exhibit will show the work of about 100 advance placement art classes from the three schools. Students will select and frame their work, as well as participate in planning, marketing, installing and sell pieces, according to organizers. Casa’s Outdoor Learning Environment taking shape

The Outdoor Learning Environment program at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma is coming together, according to backers on campus. The footprint for two outdoor classrooms, an amphitheater, garden, orchard and kitchen are set. Irrigation is in and crushed rock pathways are in place. Holley named asst. principal at Petaluma High

Bennett Holley has been named interim assistant principal at Petaluma High School. He is also joining Petaluma City School’s District Leadership Team, according to the distict. Holley took over Aug. 9 and was introduced to the school board on Tuesday. Holley has taught physical education and sports medicine at Petaluma High School for five years, and last year taught two sections of human interaction at Casa Grande High School.

Seven recent grads earn scholarships

Seven recent graduates of Sonoma County high schools were among those awarded scholarships from the California Druidic Order last month. The $1,000 awards were given to students who are committed to furthering their education. Casa Grande High School boosters are hosting a benefit at Buckeye Ranch May 7 to raise funds and awareness for the burgeoning Outdoor Learning Environment on the Petaluma campus. “Be the Buzz” will feature food and entertainment from Casa Grande students.
