Head Start taking applications

Head Start is taking applications for the 2013-14 school year. Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County Head Start, a federally funded preschool for three and four year olds, is a five-day a week program is provided for children whose family income meets the federal poverty guidelines. For more information, call 535-3386. The deadline to apply is May 31.

Program aims at teens needing second chance at diploma

YouthBuild may no longer be operational in Sonoma County, but Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County is still running an alternative school for out of school youths. “Youth Connections” targets those 16 to 22 years old who are currently out of school. “We offer them a second chance at a high school diploma,” said Jason Carter, program manager. SR Chamber celebrates top teachers

A handful of local teachers were celebrated for excellence in the classroom on the eve of the start of the school year. The annual “Education & Business Partnership Breakfast” put on by the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce celebrated teachers from schools around Santa Rosa with a select few earning special commendation at the Aug. 11 event. Local Head Start director honored as best in state

Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County’s Ofelia Ochoa-Morris has been named “Administrator of the Year,” of the California Head Start Association. Ochoa-Morris will be honored at the annual conference in San Francisco next month. Ochoa-Morris has worked for CAP for more than 30 years, with more than two decades as Head Start Director.
