SRJC to host green jobs conference March 1

Santa Rosa Junior College will host a day-long conference entitled “How Green Jobs Can Rebuild California” on March 1 in the Bertolini Student Center on the Santa Rosa campus. Speakers include Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, SRJC President Frank Chong, Sonoma County Supervisor Mike McGuire, as well as representatives from the California High Speed Rail Authority, Union Bank of Switzerland, Sonoma County Job Link, Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART), PG&E, and the Sonoma County Water Agency. Chong to be honored by Asian, Pacific Islander group

Santa Rosa Junior College President Frank Chong will be awarded the 2012 Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund Higher Education Award at a ceremony next month. Chong, who took over as president of SRJC this year, was recognized for his commitment to higher education and the contribution he has made to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, according to school officials. Officials: SRJC saving $200k by avoiding election

Officials at Santa Rosa Junior College announced Tuesday that the school district saved about $200,000 by not having to hold an election for three seats Nov. 6. Trustees Rick Call, Don Edgar and Terry Lindley are running unopposed.  “The fact the three incumbents are running unopposed speaks to the public’s trust and confidence in their continued service to the college and the community,” college President Frank Chong said.
