Sheila Garvey takes over today at McNear

Sheila Garvey has been named principal at McNear Elementary School in Petaluma, according to officials with the Petaluma City Schools district. Garvey begins her new post today. Last year Garvey was an administrative intern at Mary Collins at Cherry Valley, a kindergarten through eighth grade campus. Prior to that, she spent a year teaching at Grant Elementary School. Hillcrest Middle nominated for national honor

Hillcrest Middle School is the only school north of San Francisco to be nominated for the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program award. “Schools nominated for this significant recognition are performing at very high levels or are making impressive strides in student progress under challenging circumstances,” said state schools chief Tom Torlakson in a statement.
