Montgomery’s Sackett takes top prize at Poetry Out Loud

[imagebrowser id=40] Montgomery High School’s Kaitlyn Sackett took home the top prize in the county’s Poetry Out Loud contest Sunday, earning a spot in the state contest next month. Sackett will represent Sonoma County at the state competition in Sacramento March 23 and 24. Montgomery’s Petersen wins top Poetry Out Loud prize

  Nelly Gudino Kennedy Petersen   Kennedy Petersen of Montgomery High School was the top vote getter in the Sonoma County Poetry Out Loud contest held this week. With the win, Petersen heads to the state competition in Sacramento Marcy 24-25. If she prevails there, Washington, D.C. is next April 28-30. Montgomery’s Alberigi is student of the month

Montgomery High School senior Dominic Alberigi is Santa Rosa City Schools high school student of the month for December. Alberigi, who has been at Montgomery since his junior year, has a 4.0 grade point average and is enrolled in the school’s rigorous International Baccalaureate classes. Since coming to Montgomery, Alberigi has founded the Hope Club and the Medical Club. Reminder: Diller Family Foundation seeking award nominations

REMINDER: Nominations are being accepted for the 2013 Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards. The award, given to up to 10 Jewish teens – five from California, five from the rest of the U.S.– is $36,000 and winners can use the money any way they choose. The awards are based on service and community projects and are funded by the Helen Diller Family Foundation. SRCS sports report: Money spent and participation disparities

The annual sports report is out. Santa Rosa City Schools has released its competitive athletic unaudited fiscal analysis for 2011-12. The report details what the district’s general fund pays to support athletic programs at middle and high schools and separates funds that are received and expended via student body accounts or donations. Orientations on Montgomery’s IB program scheduled

Beginning Thursday, Montgomery High School will host three orientation seminars for its International Baccalaureate program. The sessions are designed for parents and students in grades 8-10 and will include an overview of the IB Diploma Program (grades 11-12), an overview of the pre-IB program (grades 9-10), current Montgomery students speaking about the program, an opportunity to meet IB teachers and a question and answer session.
