Analy’s Forslund earns Fulbright

Analy High School’s Tim Forslund has been awarded a Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange grant to teach in Scotland in 2011-12. Forslund, who teaches social sciences at Analy, is one of about 60 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad through the program this school year, according to Fulbright. Recipients are selected based on academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields, according to the organization. Celtic fun for Lobo Fringe effort

The next in a series of fundraisers to help send members of the Elsie Allen High theater department to Edinburgh this summer for Fringe Fest is Saturday night. The Celtic Fringe Festival is from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose Parrish Hall, 398 10th St. in Santa Rosa. Celtic music, storytelling and dancing. Tickets are $20. For information, call 396-2494. If you read about Elsie Allen High’s One-Act Play Festival running tonight and Saturday in today’s Press Democrat but can’t make it, here are a few more places to see and support Elsie’s efforts to make it the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Hot Cuban night pulls in cool $6K for Elsie Allen

Theater fans and Elsie Allen backers pulled in about $6,000 at a fundraising event last Saturday night, according to organizers hoping to send members of Elsie’s drama department to the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The Sept. 4 event was Cuban themed and featured Cuban eats and dance lessons from Edna and Dick Lucero with live music by Orquesta Batacha. Guests included Marcos Suarez, Santa Rosa City Councilman Ernesto Olivares, artist Mario Uribe, Mary Jane Schneider and Brian O’Malley, according to organizers.
