Matt Dunkle named incoming principal at El Molino

El Molino High School vice principal Matt Dunkle has been named principal of the Forestville school beginning July 1. Dunkle replaces Doria Trombetta, the Lions’ longtime leader who announced her retirement in January. Dunkle has been vice principal at El Molino since 2011 before which he was an independent education consultant, according to West Sonoma County Superintendent Keller McDonald. Reminder: El Molino hosting follow-up town hall Wednesday

El Molino High School is hosting a second Town Hall meeting to address the school’s declining enrollment issues on the Forestville campus. The first town hall was held in December and resulted in the return of the campus newsletter Lion Lines (read here: http://bit.ly/ZcRbir) and a campus beautification day (read here: http://bit.ly/ZiO6Ev). Twitchell named to fill West County School Board seat

The West Sonoma County School Board has named Amber Twitchell to the board seat that was made vacant with the retirement of Susan DeVoto. DeVoto announced her resignation earlier this year, effective Jan. 16. Twitchell, 33, of Guerneville will be sworn in on March 27. Unless someone files a petition with sufficient signatures, asking for a special election, Twitchell will keep the seat until December 2014, according to district officials. West County High School district seeking new board member

West Sonoma County Union High School District trustee Susan Devoto resigned from her post Jan. 16 effective immediately. She cited health concerns as her reason for stepping down. Devoto was first elected in November 2006. The district is seeking candidates to fill the remaining one year and 10 months of Devoto’s current term. Jorgensen named new Cloverdale superintendent

 Cloverdale Unified School District has named Steve Jorgensen its new superintendent. Claudia Fransden is slated to retire June 30. Jorgensen is currently assistant superintendent of the West Sonoma County High School District. Cloverdale has nearly 1,500 students. It’s official: California is in

California is in. State schools chief Jack O’Connell and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday morning signed the state’s application for Race to the Top federal funding. “The Race to the Top application outlines how we intend to make systemic changes to our education system in order to accelerate the development of a highly skilled workforce, fuel future innovations, and maintain California’s standing as a leading world economy,” O’Connell said in a statement.
