Avance parenting program graduates first class

About 34 parents in Santa Rosa and Petaluma graduated from the inaugural year of the Avance Parent-Child Education Program earlier this month after completing the year-long, intensive program. The curriculum, from a nationally-recognized program developed in San Antonio 38 years ago, was brought to Kawana Elementary School in Santa Rosa and McDowell Elementary in Petaluma by a partnership with First 5 Sonoma County, Petaluma Adult School and Community Action Partnership. McDowell Elementary gets boost from volunteers

McDowell School in Petaluma got an early holiday gift in the form of new landscaping at the front of campus courtesy of the Active 20-30 Club of Petaluma. Volunteers from the civic group planted more than 150 native grasses, plants, shrubs and bulbs. They also put in 10 yards of compost and 15 yards of mulch.
