A report on transfers affecting Santa Rosa City Schools was submitted at tonight’s school board meeting. It generated no discussion, but here are some highlights:

104 elementary students attended a school other than their home school within the district last year. That is up from 37 students in 2007-08. (Interestingly, in 2005-06 transfers hit 71 and a year later it was 74 before the drop to 37 students).

The most requested elementary school for transfers within the district was Helen Lehman at 34, followed by Burbank at 30 and Monroe at 29.

Last year 249 elementary students transferred out of the district, up from 238 in 2007-08.

Where did they go? Fifty went to Piner Olivet, 43 went to Rincon Valley, 35 to Roseland and 29 to Wright.

The most requested elementary schools for students coming from outside of the district were Hidden Valley at 23 students, Hidden Valley Satellite and Proctor Terrace both at 16 students, and Biella at 14 students.

At the middle and high school level:

Last year 514 students attended a school within the district other than their home school, down from 532 in 2007-08 and 664 in 2006-07. In 2005-06, there were 636 such transfers.

The top requested school for within district transfers were Santa Rosa Middle at 142; Slater Middle at 86; Montgomery High at 143 and Maria Carrillo at 49.

Last year, 204 secondary students transferred to a middle or high school outside of the district, up from 131 in 2007-08. In 2006-07 the number was 187 and in 2005-06 it was 156.

Of the students transferring out of the district, 91 went to West Sonoma County, 43 went to Windsor, 24 to Cotati-Rohnert Park and 16 to Petaluma

The most requested school for students transferring from other districts into Santa Rosa City Schools was Rincon Valley Middle at 17, Santa Rosa Middle at 4, Santa Rosa High at 77 and Maria Carrillo High at 27.
