I did an item on the death of Eugene Mijares last week (click here to read it http://extracredit.blogs.pressdemocrat.com/10779/eugene-mijares-remembered/), but a number of acknowledgements were made at tonight’s meeting for the man who spent a quarter of a decade working with students in Santa Rosa.

Board President Donna Jeye offered her condolences to the Mijares family and led the public in a moment of silence.

“There is a man who obviously had an awful lot of influence on a lot of lives,” said board member Bill Carle.

Trustee Larry Haenel said Mijares had “tremendous influence,” and “he will truly be missed.”

“He was an important part of this district and he gave his everything for this district,” said board member Laura Gonzalez. “Eugene Mijares made a difference.”
