On Nov. 15 I published a post listing the local students who were honored as National Merit Semi Finalists. I missed one.

El Molino’s Isaac Caswell (who just found out he earned early admission to Stanford) earned that distinction along with 21 other Sonoma County students.

About 90 percent of semi-finalists become finalists, according to a spokeswoman for the National Merit Scholarship program. Those students are notified in February. Later in the spring, about half of the 15,000 finalists will be awarded scholarships.

To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
