Acclaimed pianist Gustavo Romero will perform for 500 fourth through eighth grade students from Windor’s Cali Calmecac Charter School this Friday.

The performance is part of the non-profit Santa Rosa Junior College Chamber Concert Series. Cali Calmecac is a bilingual immersion charter school.

Born in Guadalajara, Romero was recommended to study at Juilliard by Rudolf Serkin. At 13, he performed with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta.

“So many first time musical experiences are life-changing events and they are so powerful when you are young,” Romero said in a statement. “I think it is important to create those experiences for young people.”

Romero will follow the performance at Cali Calmecac with a concert Friday night at Newman Auditorium in SRJC’s Emeritus Hall. Tickets for that performance are $20 for adults and $12 for children under 16. Parking is free and special group rates for youth and adults are available, according to organizers.

Tickets are available by calling 527-4372 or at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/80934
