YAB Presentation 001The State Farm Youth Advisory Board will give a $44,000 grant to Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County for the Drug Intervention Group project. The check was presented Monday.

The DIG project, in its eighth year, is youth led and focuses on underage drinking. Topics include drinking and driving, car crashes, violent assaults, sexual activity and binge drinking.

“This program is truly youth empowerment – encouraging them to shape the world they will inherit,” CAP’s executive director Oscar Chavez said in a statement.

“State Farm supports service-learning because it combines service to the community with classroom curriculum in a hands-on approach to mastering subject material while fostering civic responsibility,” Shirley Gordon, vice president of operations in Rohnert Park, said in a statement.

The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is a group of 30 young people between the ages of 17-20, who were chosen through a competitive process to lead and oversee the initiative. For more information, go to www.statefarmyab.com
