The Petaluma Education Foundation is encouraging a little spring cleaning among locals.

The group is encouraging donations to Alphabet Soup Thrift Store on Western Avenue as 100 percent of the store’s profits are donated to the foundation which supports Petaluma schools.

So far this year, profits have surpassed expectations. The Petaluma Education Foundation budgeted $26,883 coming in for the whole year, but Alphabet Soup brought in $20,149 in the first half of the fiscal year, according to Janet Ramatici, executive director of the foundation.

The foundation has launched a donation challenge for the months of March and April, with the goal of bringing in reusable household items, furniture and clothing to the store.
