The deadline for joining the race to succeed Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools Carl Wong has been extended to March 17 because Wong did not enter the race by the deadline at 5 p.m. Friday.

Windsor Superintendent Steve Herrington remains the only candidate after would-be contender and former deputy superintendent Donald “Jerry” Johnson said he would not pursue to post.

Wong announced in December that he would not seek a third, four-year term.

Herrington announced his candidacy in November.
