Sixty English language learners will participate in the annual Mike Hauser Algebra Academy this year, according to officials from the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, the organization that sponsors the three week event

The program is run in partnership with Agilent Technologies, JDS Uniphase, Medtronic Cardiovascular and PG&E. Participating school districts are Santa Rosa City Schools, Piner-Olivet,  and Roseland.

The participating students will be entering eighth or ninth grades in the fall.

Students spend time learning algebra concepts in a classroom, then head over to the participating businesses to see them in practice.

The Algebra Academy was awarded Outstanding New Program by the Western Association of Chamber Executives in 2009.
