Sonoma County Office of Education has hired Nancy S. Brownell as the assistant superintendent of instruction.  She replaces Don Russell who retired in January.

Brownell begins July 1.

As assistant superintendent, Brownell will oversee SCOE’s professional development, English language learner support service, training for school administrators and alternative education and career technical education.

For the past three years, Brownell has served as the director of the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association’s intervention collaborative. She has also been a teacher, assistant superintendent and school board member.

Brownell will make $134,551in base annual salary. She is also slated to receive $354 a month contributed to her health coverage (SCOE managers buy their own) and $600 per month for travel, according to Jeff Heller, SCOE’s director of human resources.
