Sonoma State University has a limited number of scholarships available for its summer EXCEL for youth summer enrichment program.

Scholarships are still available for low income students who qualify. For more information, contact Alison Marks at 664-2394 or Alison.marks@sonoma.edu.

Classes are one to two weeks and take place on the SSU campus in Rohnert Park. Students who are entering fourth through ninth grades are eligible.

Among the 50 courses offered this summer are: Pre-Med for Kids, Exploring Shakespeare, 3-D Animation and Modeling, Crime Scene Investigation, Be Cool with Hot Glass, I-Movie and Crash and Burn Chemistry.

In 2008, EXCEL was honored by the state Assembly with a resolution commending its contribution to education. The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth lists Excel as a program for gifted students, according to SSU.

Summer classes range from approximately $150-$178 for one-week classes and $300-$345 for two-week classes.
